At six in the morning, a loud knock jolted me awake. A police officer stood on the porch, holding up a document. “Eviction order.” Across the street, my parents stood watching in silence. My mother said coldly, “You should have listened to the family.” My father added, “Pack up. You’re leaving today.” I calmly asked the officer, “Who filed this order?” He looked down at the paper… and his expression suddenly changed.
